“My functional art mimics the natural organic world with use of earth tone colors and embellishment with natural materials.”
Creating in clay has been Barbara Wyatt’s creative passion for 30 years. “My artistic spirit has always demanded that I be creating something with my hands. My current direction represents expressions of my own life journey with themes revolving around the pandemic, cancer, and world politics.
Wyatt’s work is strongly influenced by natural organic forms, bridging art and nature. Her first foray into 3D art began with classes in Basketry, with emphasis on collecting and utilizing natural materials. She found her way into ceramics in the 1990’s, taking classes in the fundamentals of design. She gained technical skills as a ceramic artist and learned design principles with attention to form and structure.
She continued to advance her skills and expand her knowledge base by attending national and international workshops. In 2010, she was invited to teach ceramics at Edmonds College, where she taught for 10 yrs. This honed her appreciation for solving design challenges, as she assisted her students in accomplishing their creative goals. Recently her focus has turned to “Statement Work,” producing pieces that have their own voice. She has won several awards for her ceramic art, including first place in 3D art for the 2018 Edmonds Arts Festival Gallery Arts.
